| Important limit | This guide does not replace the approved trailer drawing, the jockey-wheel manual, the fastener specification, a competent inspection or destination-market registration requirements. |
Based on CNREALLY KNOWN's production experience, the clamp-mounted configuration shown here normally includes a galvanised jockey-wheel assembly, a side-wind crank, a swivel or locking bracket, two perforated clamp bars, four long bolts, washers and locking nuts. The multiple holes allow the installer to match the clamp to the confirmed rectangular drawbar section.
The installed unit in this project is a production-order configuration. Its brand and rated capacity cannot be identified from appearance alone, so the final rating must be read from the product label, packing list, approved bill of materials or supplier documentation.
| Parameter | Project configuration | What the buyer must verify |
|---|---|---|
| Mounting method | Clamp-mounted; no added welds | Approved bracket type and permitted drawbar attachment |
| Clamp hardware | Two perforated bars and four long bolts | Bolt diameter, grade, length, coating, washers, nut type and torque |
| Drawbar interface | Rectangular steel drawbar | Beam width, height, wall thickness and approved clamp location |
| Wheel type | Solid-tyre wheel with steel rim | Surface conditions, wheel diameter, width and replacement availability |
| Load rating | Not determined from appearance | Static nose load and manoeuvring load from the product label or datasheet |
| Travel clearance | Wheel retracts or swivels away from the road | Clearance at full suspension movement and maximum articulation |
The following are real manufacturer models for capacity screening. They are not a claim that any of these branded units is fitted to the illustrated trailer. Confirm tube diameter, bracket geometry and load rating before selecting a substitute.
| Manufacturer model | Static rating | Manoeuvring rating | Wheel / key data | Typical screening use |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| AL-KO Basic 1222433 | 150 kg | 90 kg | 48 mm tube; 200 x 50 solid tyre; plastic rim; 220 mm extension; 4.8 kg | Light-duty trailer support on firm surfaces |
| AL-KO Plus 1222438 | 200 kg | 120 kg | 260 mm pneumatic tyre; steel rim; 5 kg | Uneven or softer ground where a larger wheel helps |
| AL-KO Premium Profi 1221695 | 300 kg | 180 kg | 230 mm solid tyre; steel rim; 9.8 kg | Higher nose load and frequent manoeuvring |
| Winterhoff K 70-250 VBR | 500 kg | 300 kg | 70 mm tube; 250 x 60 solid tyre; 220 mm extension; 16.06 kg | Heavy trailer support and demanding daily handling |
Capacity figures are manufacturer-published values accessed on July 29, 2026. Ratings and availability may change. Use the current datasheet supplied with the selected component.
The jockey wheel supports the vertical load at the coupling when the trailer is uncoupled. Ask for the maximum loaded nose weight and include a reasonable engineering margin. Never assume that a wheel is suitable because the complete trailer mass looks similar to another project.
Manufacturer data shows why the distinction matters. AL-KO article 1222433 is published at 150 kg stationary but 90 kg while manoeuvring. If the trailer will be pushed regularly, use the lower manoeuvring value as a screening limit.
A narrow solid tyre is durable and predictable on concrete. A wider pneumatic or soft tyre can roll more easily on gravel, turf or uneven event sites, but it needs pressure checks and may have different load limits. Wheel diameter, tread width and bearing type affect real handling effort.
Measure the rectangular drawbar section, available clamp length, coupling controls, brake hardware and any front storage box. The wheel must operate without interference and must stow high enough for kerbs, ramps and road articulation.
EU/UNECE markets: UN Regulation No. 55 covers approved mechanical coupling components and their attachment. A jockey wheel is not a substitute for an approved coupling, but its bracket must not interfere with the coupling system or weaken its mounting area.
United Kingdom: the DVSA light-trailer IVA guidance states that general construction is checked for suitable nuts and bolts, locking devices, adequate materials, reinforcement where necessary and safe performance under load, vibration, acceleration, cornering and braking forces. The current trailer IVA inspection manual should be used for the detailed approval route.
Australia: VSB 1 Revision 6, published July 29, 2025, helps manufacturers understand the Australian Design Rule requirements for trailers with an Aggregate Trailer Mass of 4.5 tonnes or less. Confirm the approved drawbar and coupling configuration before delivery or modification.
United States: NHTSA warns that food and vending trailers must be certified to all applicable Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standards. The support wheel does not make a trailer road-compliant; certification, lighting, tyres, wheels, labelling and state registration requirements still apply.
The installation sequence and project configuration were documented from CNREALLY KNOWN production specifications and order-control requirements. Load-rating examples were checked against current AL-KO and Winterhoff product data. Regional compliance notes were checked against official UNECE, UK DVSA, Australian Government and U.S. NHTSA sources. Component ratings, fastener grades and torque values remain subject to the selected supplier documentation and approved order drawing. No personal ownership or road-use experience is claimed.
The names overlap by market. A jockey wheel generally supports the coupling nose load and helps move an uncoupled light trailer. A heavy-duty trailer jack may use a footplate instead of a wheel and can have a much higher rated capacity. Match the product function and rating, not only the name.
Start with the maximum loaded nose weight at the coupling, then confirm the required engineering margin and whether the trailer will be manoeuvred on the wheel. Both the stationary and manoeuvring ratings must be adequate.
No. A published 150 kg static rating may have a lower manoeuvring rating, and the trailer's actual nose weight may change after equipment, water, gas cylinders, batteries and stock are loaded. Measure the completed layout.
Not for this clamp-mounted configuration. Do not add welds, holes or reinforcement unless the approved engineering drawing specifies them. Uncontrolled modification can affect alignment, corrosion protection and structural approval.
Use the value supplied for the selected bracket and fastener set. Bolt diameter alone is not enough because grade, thread pitch, coating, lubrication, washer arrangement and locking nut type all affect the correct torque and clamp force.
Solid tyres are low-maintenance and suitable for hard surfaces. Wider pneumatic or soft tyres usually roll better on gravel, grass and uneven event sites, but they require pressure and condition checks. Compare capacity as well as comfort.
No. Before towing, place it in the approved fully raised or swivelled travel position and engage the lock. A lowered wheel can strike the road, damage the drawbar and interfere with braking or coupling components.
Send the destination country, trailer model and body size, estimated maximum loaded mass, measured or calculated nose weight, rectangular drawbar dimensions, coupling/brake type, preferred ground surface, required wheel type and clear photos or drawings of the mounting area.
Send CNREALLY KNOWN your destination country, trailer size, menu and equipment list, maximum loaded mass, nose weight and drawbar dimensions. Our engineering team can prepare a matched coupling, jockey-wheel and brake layout, plus a 2D/3D workflow drawing and itemised quotation.
